About Sophie:
Well known and much-loved Bristol-based saxophonist, composer, arranger and teacher Sophie Stockham Brown, has performed extensively across the UK and Europe with her critically lauded projects 6161, Dakhla Brass, Sefrial, Orfic, Starlings and the Cut Capers, including at the Royal Albert Hall and Montreal Jazz festival. She has worked with five times Grammy award winning producer Jerry Boys. Sophie has had regular national radio play (BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio 4 and BBC Radio 6 – including, Jamie Cullum, Huey Morgan, Soweto Kinch and Stuart Maconie)
In 2019 Sophie arranged several pieces for the Bristol Symphony Orchestra, which led to the creation and release of her own album ‘Ria’ for saxophone and String quintet. In November 2023 Sophie’s debut orchestral suite ‘Selenes Awakening’ was performed by the Bristol Met Orchestra at St Georges Bristol. Tracks are now available to hear on spotify.
In 2024/25 Sophie recorded and toured with Matt Stockham Browns 6161. Described as: ‘A SURGE OF FIERCELY DRUM LED AND BRASS HEAVY ALT JAZZ’ With some of the UKs top players, the band has received critical acclaim from Mojo magazine, Jazzwise magazine, BBC radio 2,3,6 to name a few.
2025 will see the release of Sophie’s final String and saxophone EP exploring the jazz and classical crossover realm.
